Councils do a lot more than just collect your rubbish - we light your street, repair local roads and footpaths, maintain parks, operate recreation centres, provide libraries and services for seniors, youth and much, much more!

Our draft 2022-2023 Annual Budget and Business Plan, incorporating the annual review of the Long Term Financial Plan, is currently out for community consultation.

Under the draft Plan, additional funding will deliver expanded and improved community development services in areas like health networks, recreation and sport, youth, arts and culture.

To help those ratepayers impacted by the Valuer-General’s statewide revaluation initiative, especially primary producers, we have also introduced a second round of rate caps costed at approximately $140,000, which will be automatically applied where applicable.

Funding will also flow to new and accelerated infrastructure projects including:

• $1.1m for accelerated rural road sealing on Goldfields Road, Cockatoo Valley; Valley Road, Angaston; and Yaldara Drive, Lyndoch

• Over $3.7m for road sheeting, construction, sealing and resealing

• Over $18m for projects under The Big Project, some subject to securing funding

• $1.8m in 2022/23 and an estimated $6m over 5 years to upgrade the capacity of Nuriootpa’s wastewater treatment system to cater for town expansion

More resources will also be directed towards facilities management to streamline and improve the relationship with community users and address growing facility maintenance costs.

People can comment on the draft Plan until 12 July 2022, or make a verbal submission at the Nuriootpa Council chambers on 6 July from 7.30pm to 8.30pm.

Feedback can also be given via facebook.com/thebarossacouncil, via email barossa@barossa.sa.gov.au, or in writing (PO Box 867, Nuriootpa SA 5355).
