Consultation has concluded
Throughout October and November 2019 Council consulted with community on the draft Event Management Policy. The extended consultation saw a high volume of robust public engagement and feedback, particularly in regard to the Policy’s definition of ‘Potential High Impact Event’.
Given the potential impact of this clause on various community groups and events, Council excluded Agricultural, Horticultural and Floricultural Shows from the definition of a potential high impact event, permitting the continuation of existing horse-in-action events that have a historical function and attraction to those annual events.
Mayor Bim Lange said “We know local events deliver a range of benefits, building community spirit and participation and attracting visitors to our region, and we don’t take this for granted.”
The Policy also supports environmentally responsible event practices with a focus on redirecting event waste to recycling and organic streams. Where facilities are consecutively booked on weekends and after hours, event organisers will be responsible for leaving them clean and tidy, with the option to request additional waste bins. The Event Management Policy was approved at the 17 December 2019 Council Meeting.
