Proposed mandatory green organic waste service

In 2020 Council obtained a grant under the Green Industries SA Kerbside Performance Plus Food Waste Incentive program to assist in implementing a sustainable and efficient food organics recycling systems and move closer to achieving targets within the South Australia's Waste Strategy 2015-2020.

Community were consulted on a the proposal of introducing a mandatory green organic kerbside waste system in selected townships, which resulted in 55% of respondents indicating their support.

At the December 2020 Council meeting it was unanimously decided that Council's green organic bin service would become mandatory from the start of the 2021-22 financial year across Angaston, Penrice, Tanunda, Springton, Mount Pleasant, Nuriootpa, Lyndoch, Williamstown and Stockwell with the option for rate payers to 'opt out' where a suitable green waste system for their property can be demonstrated.
